Today’s Thought: When a staff person makes a blunder or fails to follow through, confront the issue squarely and ask for an explanation. Find out what went wrong and how the person will correct the problem in the future. Don’t allow a long-winded response to obscure the facts. Insist on a truthful, direct answer.

Don’t allow any wiggle room. Ask follow-up questions until you are satisfied that you’ve heard the straight story. Many questions require a yes or no answer. Insist on either a yes or no.

Remember, a bad result plus a good explanation doesn’t equal a good outcome. Get the straight scoop every time to move your business forward.
