Do you carefully review a salesperson’s promises?

Scripture: Does not the ear test words, as the palate tastes its food? (Job 12:11).

Today’s Thought: It seems that some people will say anything to make a sale. As a buyer, you must evaluate the words of the sales representatives who call on you. Pay careful attention and take notes during sales presentations. Write down important claims and promises, and ask follow-up questions to clarify any unclear points.

Ask how the firm will meet its delivery commitments, and, if appropriate, ask about their service after the sale. How will their products be maintained? Clarify broad statements like “Our product is the best” by asking how claims can be substantiated.

Once an agreement has been reached, ask for a letter of understanding or a contract that confirms each of the promises made. If you cover your bases here, both you and the seller will know what to expect. The result will be an effective vendor partnership that serves your company well.
