Do you gloat about a smashing victory over a competitor?

Scripture: Yes, you, do not gloat over their calamity in the day of their disaster (Obadiah v.13).

Today’s Thought: When you win a major bid or take a customer away from a competitor, enjoy the victory but don’t gloat. Gloating leads only to overconfidence and may well kindle anger and retaliation from your competitor.

In the past, one particular rival repeatedly gloated over taking a large account away from my firm. After a while, I established a designated file with the names of all my competitors’ accounts, which I then made a special project of working to obtain. As a direct result of their smug attitude, I worked their prospects harder.

When you do land a big account, recognize that your work is just beginning. Instead of gloating, focus your enthusiasm and energy on serving your new customer and obtaining the next one.

Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before stumbling (Proverbs 16:18).

Focus your enthusiasm and energy on serving your new customer.
