Do you have a mentor to help you become a more effective manager?

Scripture: And Jesus kept increasing in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men (Luke 2:52).

Today’s Thought: One method for improving your effectiveness in business is to find a mentor. A mentor is someone with more business and life experience than you who can coach you and give you advice. You may find a mentor who works somewhere else will provide a valuable measure of objectivity.

To find a mentor, look for a person with three key qualifications: spiritual maturity, extensive business experience, and a similar temperament to yours. Your mentor should also be the same sex to avoid any issues of impropriety.

When approaching possible mentors, explain that you want to learn from their experience and benefit from their insight. Ask if they would be willing to meet with you face-to-face once a month for an hour. Establish an open and honest relationship with your mentor; then pay attention and grow in wisdom.

Commit to revisiting the obligation in one year. Some mentoring relationship may last a season, others, a lifetime.

For if you cry for discernment, lift your voice for understanding (Proverbs 2:3).

Establish an open and honest relationship with your mentor; then pay attention and grow in wisdom.
