Do you make your own decisions, ignoring company policy?

Scripture: He who keeps a royal command experiences no trouble, for a wise heart knows the proper time and procedure (Ecclesiastes 8:5).


Today’s Thought: An employee who makes independent decisions, ignoring company policy, can be summed up in two words: loose cannon. Like sailors on the deck of a ships, managers quickly learn to avoid loose cannons or find a way to tie them down.

To be effective, anchor your decisions in company policies and procedures. Don’t

always assume your way is better. If you do have a suggestion for improvement, work through the

proper channels to propose the idea to your boss or the owner of the company.

Select a time when you can approach your boss without disrupting the flow of work

and ask for sufficient time to make your proposal. Outline the advantages of your plan and the

Expected results. Ask for feedback. Invite questions and be willing to modify your plan.

Run your better ideas through proper channels and your value as a team member will increase.


By forbearance a ruler may be persuaded (Proverbs 25:15).
