Do you relay instructions and directives to your staff clearly and completely?

Scripture: You shall not add to the word which I am commanding you, nor take away from it, that you may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you (Deuteronomy 4:2).

Today’s Thought: At times, we may want to soften a directive that comes down from senior management to protect staff from what we believe are harsh words. We use the bluntness of the message as an excuse for not dealing honestly with the issue.

Unfortunately, when we mince words, we often make the situation worse instead of helping. If management has said that the plant will close unless efficiency is increased 20 percent, there’s no way to sugarcoat the truth.

Failing to explain the entire message is also a form of dishonesty. Just as you expect subordinates to pass on your messages, you must pass on those frpm ypur boss.

The best approach is always to be direct and honest. That way everyone knows the score and each team member can pitch in to help reach the required goal. Knowledge is power, and sharing knowledge empowers your employees, even when the truth is hard to hear.

Better is open rebuke than love that is concealed (Proverbs 27:5).

The best approach is always to be direst and honest.
