Have you ever told your boss that a problem was not your fault?

Scripture: Arise! For this matter is your responsibility, but we will be with you; be courageous and act (Ezra 10:4).

Today’s Thought: When asked the reason for his team’s defeat one day, a wise baseball manager snapped, “Excuses don’t win ball games.” How true, and yet how often we try to cover our losses with great explanations. Sometimes we act as though a bad results plus a good story equals a favorable outcome. Clearly, this is faulty math. Excuses and rationalizations never substitute for purposeful action and follow-through.

The next time you fall short on the job, don’t try to vindicate yourself with excuses. Instead, simply accept the criticism, apologize, and take the necessary steps to correct the problem. Redouble your efforts and work to remove any obstacles blocking you from success.

As you accept responsibility, allow yourself to be held accountable, and establish a habit of action in every circumstance, your boss will take notice, your value to the company will increase, and your opportunities for promotion and better salary increases will expand.

A wise son accepts his father’s discipline, but a scoffer does not listen to rebuke (Proverbs 13:1).

Accept responsibility, allow yourself to be held accountable, and establish a habit of action in every circumstance.
